Moving forward from 2020
The 2020 election feels like the cap on a very difficult year. 2020 has been a year of pain, chaos, and soul-searching for many of us. The events of the year, the pandemic, the social unrest, the political turmoil; have brought to light the disparities that have existed for centuries. The fragility of life and the cracks in our society are impossible to ignore. They are front and center. It is time to take a close look at the depths of the issues and look for real solutions instead of sweeping them under the proverbial rug or pretending that everything is fine.
In my book, Reconstructing Hope, I explore the ways that breast cancer changes life. It is like an hour glass where the sand comes through the narrow part of the glass looking the same, but changed in many ways. The same analogy can be applied to our post-2020 lives. The sun still shines. The neighborhood looks the same, but life will never be the same as it was before this year. We need to step up and take on the challenge, use the lessons learned from this year, to make our world a better place.
