The Spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Awards are presented annually in conjunction with the MLK Convocation to a faculty or staff person and a student or student group who through their life and work have promoted peace, love, humility, integrity, and honor while working with others.

Adversity can be an opportunity, but we need tools to turn it around. The speaker uses her experience as a two-time breast cancer survivor and a healthcare provider to walk participants through the process of transformation.
Why do I feel so alone?
Any transformative experience changes us and our perspectives. Old relationships are not the same. Suddenly we feel alone. The speaker draws on her experiences, first as a third-culture kid, and then as a breast cancer survivor to illustrate how transformation and isolation are closely related.
