February Hats

I heard a woman telling her breast cancer story on a radio program. She talked about losing her hair during chemotherapy and the challenge of deciding whether she was a “scarf woman” or a “wig woman.” She felt that the scarf was more transparent and honest, but it was also depressing. Every time she looked in

the mirror or saw her reflection in a window, she saw a sad, sick woman staring back at her. She saw this reflected in the eyes of others as well. They all looked at her with pity, “as if they were about to cry.”

Chemo is not the only cancer treatment that affects hair. I am on hormone blockers that have turned my hair into a fine, fluffy, uncontrolable, cloud.

It’s February. It’s cold outside! We are hitting some of the coldest days of the year so I decided that February is hat month. My FEBRUARY SPECIAL is a handmade (by me) hat with each copy of my book: Reconstructing Hope purchased from my website: donnasidwelldegracia.com.

A hat and a book is a wonderful gift for a survivor- or for yourself. I have a lot to choose from. A few are pictured here.
