Stretching my comfort zone

Since my “retirement” I have be busy with other interest, doing things that I have not had time for during the previous 50 years of work and parenting. One of those interests is the arts.

On the visual arts front: I have discovered a love for watercolor. I was always afraid of watercolor in the past; too uncontrollable; no margin for error. You can’t paint over watercolors the way you can with oil pints. I’ve also dabbled in acrylics.

On the literary front: I have a novel with a sequel that I have been finessing. Next step is to find an agent, something I understand is very difficult to do.

If anyone were to ask my advice on retirement, I would recommend:

  1. Think about your finances. Can you live on your retirement income?

  2. Stretch yourself. Get out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new- or something you have neglected while you were too busy with work and kids.

  3. Retirement is YOUR time. You don’t have forever. Make the most of what you have for YOU!
